Reading and Spelling Support For Students with Dyslexia

For our students with Dyslexia who are struggling to read it is not only what is taught but how it is taught that is so crucial.

At the Foundation one of our key reading programs is , “ Spell Read “ published by Pro- Ed. This program focuses on improving a child’s decoding skills, which in turn improves their reading fluency. ‘ The content and design of the program are aligned with current, scientifically based reading research. A highlight of this program is the creative and varied array of activities that enhance student motivation and performance..” – Florida Centre for Reading Research.

Literacy , Numeracy and Subject Specific Tutoring

The Foundation offers extensive support to develop and strengthen a student’s literacy, numeracy and subject specific skills. Students may find one curriculum area particularly challenging or they may have missed parts of the curriculum. In these and other instances, individual tutoring can make a big difference. Sometimes three to four sessions are sufficient but regular support is available in many subject areas, including maths, biology, physics, chemistry, humanities and English.

Our teachers are qualified to offer a range of interventions that cover the early years, primary and secondary aged students.

Tutoring In Exam Preparation

Our teachers are familiar with the requirements of the major secondary education curricula in English, this includes I.B. “A Levels” and IGCSE”s. We can provide tutoring in different subject areas along with examination practice.

Programs and Workshops for Adults

All of our courses are designed and delivered by highly qualified and experienced practitioners.Foundations for Learning is happy to provide tailored courses and workshops designed to meet the needs of groups of teachers. We have recently run courses for teachers at schools on various topics, including autism spectrum disorders, classroom management, teaching EAL (English as an Additional Language) and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).

We can provide guest speakers for teacher in-service days, brief seminars, one-day courses, weekend workshops and even longer courses during the school holidays. We also run longer programs, for example the 10-month Teaching Assistant’s Course.

Assessments

The main aim of any assessment is to bring a deeper understanding of a learner. It should help all the people in the network surrounding the learner understand how better to support them. Most importantly by the end of the assessment process the person who has taken the assessment should better understand how they learn. Our assessments are undertaken by a clinical or educational psychologist and a learning support specialist.

We can assess for Dyslexia, Attention Difficulties, Executive Function Difficulties, Dyscalculia and Cognitive difficulties. We also carry out assessments that can determine if a student is eligible for examination accommodations. These can be carried out for the IB, AP, Edexcel and Cambridge examination boards.
