Speech and Language Therapy

FFL offers Speech and Language Therapy services in English to children from the ages of 0-18. FFL has a number of native English-speaking Speech and Language Therapists working across Basel and Zürich to meet the needs of families of children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.

A Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), also called a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), is a university-educated, specialist professional who is qualified to assess, diagnose and provide therapy for children and adults with speech, language, voice, fluency and social communication difficulties and disorders.

Individualised Therapy Programs

FFL SLTs can design and provide individualised speech and language therapy programs for your child, based on a comprehensive assessment of their needs. The SLT will work closely with parents, teachers and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach with carrying out recommendations, strategies and activities. Face-to-face sessions with the SLT may take place at the centre, home or school, depending on SLT availability and the individual needs of the child and family.

School Screening and Consultation Services

Our SLTs provide class-wide or school-wide screening services to help identify students who may have a speech, language or communication difficulty, and need support from an SLT. This can be particularly helpful for identifying students who will benefit from early intervention to optimise their learning.

Our SLTs are also available to consult and provide supportive recommendations to modify the learning environment for students who may be at risk for communication difficulties, but do not currently need direct intervention from an SLT.

Workshops & Training

FFL SLTs offer a range of workshops and training programs to suit the needs of parent, school and community groups. Training can be bespoke and tailored to the needs of a particular group, or from a set training menu. Popular workshop topics may include: typical communication development, red flags for communication disorders, supporting communication difficulties in the classroom, developing communication through play, and bilingualism and communication development. Hanen® and Elklan® certified SLTs also work for FFL and are available to run certain parent and teacher programs.

Assessments

At FFL, our SLTs provide comprehensive speech, language and communication assessments tailored specifically to your child’s needs and environment. Our SLTs are native speakers of English who use internationally recognised, standard assessment tools and clinical expertise to understand how your child’s communication is developing, and provide strategies and recommendations for support.

Your child may be experiencing difficulties with their language (understanding others and expressing themselves), speech (using clear speech sounds), fluency (stuttering/stammering), or social communication (using their language to interact well with others), which is impacting their learning and self-confidence. FFL can carry out flexible assessments to determine what support can help your child reach their learning potential and be a confident communicator.
