Speech and Language Therapy

FFL offers Speech and Language Therapy services in English to children from the ages of 0-18. FFL has a number of native English-speaking Speech and Language Therapists working across Basel and Zürich to meet the needs of families of children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.

A Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), also called a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), is a university-educated, specialist professional who is qualified to assess, diagnose and provide therapy for children and adults with speech, language, voice, fluency and social communication difficulties and disorders.

Individualised Therapy Programs

Our Speech and Language Therapists will address your child‘s speech and language needs using individualised and evidence based therapy approaches. Therapy is informed by a comprehensive assessment of your child‘s speech, language and communication needs.

Our therapists will work closely with parents, teachers and other professionals in order to set functional therapy targets and to ensure a consistent approach with carrying out activities, strategies and recommendations. Therapy sessions can take place at one of our office(s), at the child‘s school or at home, depending on the therapists‘ availability and the individual needs of the child and family.

We offer face to face or online therapy sessions. Therapy sessions are usually run in English. However, some of our therapists are also licensed to conduct therapy in German or Spanish.

School Screening and Consultation Services

Our SLTs provide class-wide or school-wide screening services to help identify students who may have a speech, language or communication difficulty, and need support from an SLT. This can be particularly helpful for identifying students who will benefit from early intervention to optimise their learning.

Our SLTs are also available to consult and provide supportive recommendations to modify the learning environment for students who may be at risk for communication difficulties, but do not currently need direct intervention from an SLT.

Workshops & Training

FFL SLTs offer a range of workshops and training programs to suit the needs of parent, school and community groups. Training can be bespoke and tailored to the needs of a particular group, or from a set training menu. Popular workshop topics may include: typical communication development, red flags for communication disorders, supporting communication difficulties in the classroom, developing communication through play, and bilingualism and communication development. Hanen® and Elklan® certified SLTs also work for FFL and are available to run certain parent and teacher programs.
